Individual pleads guilty to sexual crimes involving young males at summer camp
An individual who spiked treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his family member alerted the police about his suspicions.
She said Ruben proceeded to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor said the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the law enforcement again.
She said Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
